Welcome to the Lions Club Sliema Web Site.
It is very onerous to lead a successful Club
and now that my 2010/2011 Presidential Year has passed, I can look
back with satisfaction that with the support of all members, our
Club, Lions Club Sliema has had a very good year.
The National Library Book
Restoration Project initiated by my predecessor Lion Alphonse
MacDonald has been acknowledged by Lions Clubs International to be
of such importance that a full page feature appeared in the Lions
Magazine of February. The most difficult phase of this project was
achieved on the 14th June, when with the financial
support of Bank of Valletta plc, The Royal Malta Golf Club and our
usual sponsor NGK Spark Plug Europe GMBH., we presented a new
Leaf-Casting Machine to the National Library. In the annual Lions
Peace Poster Contest our sponsored youth repeated last year’s feat
by obtaining a merit Award. In recognising voluntary work by a
number of youths, together with Agenzija Zghazagh we launched the
Lions Youth Leaders in Service Award. 35 youths have received a
certificate issued by Lions Clubs International.
Why did we succeed in our
various projects? The answer is simply because the Club abounds
with members who are either leaders on their own mental strength or
hard-working Lions who in true Lionistic spirit based on our motto
WE SERVE, manage to meet targets and achieve results.
The philosophy of our Club
is based mainly on acknowledging every effort no matter how small.
Many small actions yield big success. Apart from the fact that
membership has increased by 20% our most important activity for
2010/2011 was the Twinning with L.C. Bosco Marengo Santa Croce in
Piemonte Italy where we received red-carpet treatment. Details of
last year’s activities can be seen in another section of this site.
Regular club meetings are
attended by not less than 20 members and when wives and partners are
invited attendance soars to over 40 persons. Yet in spite of
varied ideas and opinions, meetings run smoothly and are terminated
with the usual ‘one for the road’ at the stipulated time.
This year’s programme is
very easy. We shall work hard to bring to fruition those projects
that in giving us satisfaction we contribute towards the betterment
of our community and our nation. We also expect that in
recognising our efforts, International Headquarters will again grant
us The Club Excellence Award for the second year running.
