Visit to St Augustine Church

On 16th October Sliema Lions visited the Church of St Augustine in Valletta which started to be built in 1571 on the plans of Maltese Architect Girolamo Cassar. Napoleon had expelled the Augustinian priest from the monastery during his stay in Malta in 1798. The lions were also shown around the monastery building, the crypt and war time shelters beneath the church.

President George Attard donated much needed money for the restoration process which is estimated at over 1 million Euros. The group then proceeded to Aarons Restaurant where an excellent meal was served.
